Inaugural Foreign Language Scenario Storytelling Competition: Language Connects the World, Narrating China

Recently, to enhance students’ foreign language proficiency and cross-cultural communication competence, College of International Studies, National University of Defense Technology hosted its inaugural “Bridging Cultures with language, Sharing China with the World” Foreign Language Scenario Storytelling Competition. Through scenario-based performances, immersive narration, stage presentations and other forms, participants shared stories of China, presenting to the world a credible, appealing, and respectable image of the country. 


Centered on the two themes of “Loyalty to the Mission” and “Peaceful Development”, the competition is structured into three narrative sections: “The Spirit of the War of Resistance - The Light of Justice” “The Story of Spring - The Light of Development” and “The Journey of the New Era - The Light of Dreams”. After intense preliminary and semi-final rounds among 21 teams from the college, 9 teams advanced to the finals. During the final round, contestants focused on themes such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Community with a Shared Future for Mankind. They skillfully utilized 13 languages, including English, Russian, Vietnamese, and Arabic, to vividly recount stories that embody the Chinese spirit and a global vision, showcasing the struggles and endeavors of the Chinese people, weaving together a magnificent tapestry that transcends time and connects China with the world. Based on scoring by professional judges and ideological-political judges, one first prize, three second prizes, and five third prizes were awarded. Additionally, 50 public reviewers from local universities in Nanjing were invited to vote, selecting one “Most Popular Team”.
