As a comprehensive university, NUDT covers 8 discipline categories, including sciences, engineering, military science, management, law, literature, economics and education. The development of disciplines at NUDT is characterized by a combination of science and engineering with more emphasis on engineering, and strengthening basic studies for the advancement of engineering. Currently the University offers 61 programs for undergraduates and is authorized to grant master's degrees under 26 first-level disciplines and grant doctoral degrees under 23 first-level disciplines, together with 11 professional master's degrees and 3 professional doctoral degrees.
