Chinese Language and Culture Immersion Tour for International Students

2025/12/19

Recently, the Kunshan Campus of the College of International Studies, NUDT organized a language and cultural immersion tour for nearly 200 international students. The program unfolded along two parallel routes: one heading west into the heart of the Central Plains, visiting ancient cities such as Anyang and Kaifeng to explore historical roots, experience China’s enduring spirit of perseverance, and appreciate its splendid civilization; the other going north into Northeast China, entering industrial hubs like Harbin and Changchun to learn about contributions during the War of Resistance, witness the spirit of self-reliance, and observe China’s advances in technology and innovation.

Anyang–Kaifeng Route

As an ancient capital of seven dynasties, Anyang is home to the archaeological site of Yin Xu (UNESCO World Heritage), where the oracle-bone inscriptions were excavated, as well as the source of the “Red Flag Canal Spirit.” This historically rich city served as a key destination for students exploring the origins of Chinese civilization.

The students visited the Yinxu Museum, the National Museum of Chinese Writing, and the Kaifeng Museum. At the Yinxu ruins in Anyang, they gazed at oracle bone inscriptions dating back over 3,000 years, attempting to decipher the ancient symbols. In the National Museum of Chinese Writing, they gained insight into how Chinese characters have carried thousands of years of civilization. Standing beside the famous artificial construction on the Taihang Mountains, the students were deeply moved by the Red Flag Canal—a monumental feat of human determination over nature.

Harbin–Changchun Route

Upon setting foot in Northeast China, the students were immediately embraced by the crisp, cold air—a tangible reminder of China’s vast territory. While visiting the Baroque-style architecture in Harbin, snow began to fall—a romantic vignette symbolic of the city and an unexpected delight of the journey.

In Harbin and Changchun, the group visited the Flood Control Memorial Tower, the Space Museum at Harbin Institute of Technology, and modern Chinese industrial enterprises with independent core technology development capabilities.

They paused for a long time before photographs in the Exhibition Hall of Evidences of Crimes Committed by Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army, which was not only a brutal chapter of history but also reflecting on the profound meaning of “cherishing peace” in China. At the FAW Hongqi manufacturing center, the students observed the rise of China’s national automobile industry. Inside the exhibition hall, many took photos and participated in test drives of the latest hybrid models.

At CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., the CR450 high-speed train prototype caught everyone’s attention. With an operational speed of 400 km/h and a test speed reaching 450 km/h, this “Made in Changchun” train represents the latest advancement in China’s high-speed trains technology.

At the end of the tour, participants expressed their intention to share their experiences in China upon returning home, using cultural dialogue to build bridges of friendship and contribute to the development of a global community of shared future.
