The 8th Unmanned Systems Innovation Competition (UMSIC) has come to a close in Cairo, Egypt. Three teams from National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) bagged two championships and a third prize after five-day fierce competition with over 40 competitors around the world.
Team Kylin Honor and Team Oriental Dragon from College of Intelligence Science and Technology, NUDT, won the championship of the Unmanned Ground Vehicles Competition (UGVC) and the third prize of the Unmanned Maritime Vehicles Competition (UMVC) respectively.
Team Rosefinch Emissary from College of Aerospace Science and Engineering, which participated in the competition for the first time, won the championship of the Satellite Competition (SATC).
Host by Egyptian Ministry of Defense and Egypt’s Military Technical College (MTC), the UMSIC is an international event which aims to build a comprehensive engineering platform of innovation practice and technical exchanges for universities all over the world. Started in 2016, this event comprises six competitions including the Unmanned Ground Vehicles Competition (UGVC), the Unmanned Maritime Vehicles Competition (UMVC) and the Satellite Competition (SATC).
In the UGVC, Team Kylin Honor faced a rather tougher competition this year with 16 tasks in 3 contests and two more competitors than the previous year. Finally, Team Kylin Honor won the championship with the only full score in technical oral defense task and managed to defend NUDT’s sixth championship in the UGVC.
Facing challenges of adjusted rules and away-game venue, Team Oriental Dragon won the third prize in the competition and was awarded the title of the BEST OPERATOR.
In the SATC, Team Rosefinch Emissary spent two months designing, writing reports and producing. Their project received great interestand general consent from the judges and finally won the championship of the SATC.
