NUDT wins Outstanding Winner & AMS Award of the 40th ICM

Recently, the results of the 40th Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) were announced. A team composed of three undergraduate students from the College of Science, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), won the highest honor, Outstanding Winner award and an AMS Award. Additionally, other teams from NUDT secured 8 Finalist awards, 27 Meritorious Winner awards, and 88 Honorable Mention awards, achieving the best results and the highest number of awards in the university’s history of participating in this contest.



A total of 28,912 teams comprising 76,346 students from universities in more than 20 countries and regions participated in the 2024 ICM. This year, 35 teams were awarded Outstanding Winner, with the award ratio being less than 1%.


The College of Science is responsible for the training and orgainization of contest participation, with the mathematical modeling guidance team implementing the training. Each year, the guidance team effectively assists and prepares students for the competition by developing detailed training plans, offering training lectures, and organizing mock contests. In recent years, students’ enthusiasm for participating in the competition has been steadily increasing. In 2024, 723 teams of more than 2,100 students registered for the training program. After training and selection, the final 283 teams comprising 849 students participated in the contest.
