On December 7, 2008, at the China Robocon and RoboCup China Open held in Zhongshan, Guangdong, NUDT robot team defended its title in the contest of mid-size robots, winning their third successive RoboCup championship after 2006 and 2007. In addition, the team won an Outstanding Award for rescue robots and two Honorable Mentions of technology challenge among mid-size robots.
China Robocon, with the largest scale and highest technology level amongst robot competitions, is the top contest in the field of intelligent robots in China. RoboCup China Open is an international event certified by RoboCup and the fifth event after the Japan Open, USA Open, Germany Open, and Australia Open RoboCups. Last year, 416 teams and more than 1000 delegates from more than 10 countries and regions including China, France, USA, and Australia participated in the grand competition.
NUDT has been dedicated to research in the fields of coordination and control of multi-robots, robot vision, mobile robot systems, etc., and has accomplished a significant number of research achievements, among which are dozens of high level research papers published in journals and presented at conferences at home and abroad, two warrants for national patents, two software copyrights, independently designed research platforms such as multiple mobile robot systems, rescue robots, and more. Its prominent performance at the contest fully demonstrates its research achievements and progress in the fields mentioned above.
