The Key Laboratory of Information System Engineering was co-constructed by NUDT, the 28th Institute of National Electronic Science and Technology Group, and the 17th Institute of National Aerospace Industry Corp. NUDT is the chief unit of the laboratory. The sub-laboratories, independent yet compatible, have different responsibilities and provide support to each other.
The key laboratory of information system engineering has an area of 3,300 m2 and was built by the College of Information System and Management, which was initiated by Professor Qian Xuesen in 1979. The laboratory has undertaken many research projects such as National 973 Plan (National Key Basic Research Development Plan) fundamental projects of national major security issues, national natural science funds projects, National 863 Plan (National Advanced Technological and Research Plan) projects. It has developed into an important as well as the only research center of basic theory of information systems. In recent years, the accumulated research fund in the field of information system engineering has reached 70,000,000 Yuan and over 30 research achievements have been awarded the prize of scientific and technological progress. The laboratory has published over 30 monographs and over 1,000 papers, a great many of which are indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. This laboratory also works with other support and key disciplines, which has proven to be advantages to all. The laboratory has posts for Changjiang Scholars, and post-doctoral research stations of information and communication system, management science and engineering, system engineering, etc.
The laboratory aims to develop an independent innovation research base for programs of design and system integration of information systems and improve the basic research abilities of China in the field of information system. It also seeks to nurture qualified students, and provide technical support for the development of defense technology and weaponry equipment.
