The College of Information System and Management, established in 1979, is mainly responsible for education and training of Commanding Information System and Management for undergraduates, master and Ph.D. candidates and continuing education. The college also conducts scientific research in the fields of commanding information systems, weaponry demonstration, defense acquisition management and the development of national defense science and technology strategy.
Our talented faculty includes one National Eminent Teacher, four members of the New Century Excellent Researcher Award Program from the Ministry of Education, and three members of the Hunan 121 Talent Project.
The college has developed four Ph.D. programs (Management Science and Engineering, System Engineering, Military Operation Research, and Military Equipment Research), two post-doctoral research stations (Management Science and Engineering and Control Science and Engineering), eight master programs (Management Science and Engineering, System Engineering, Military Operation Research, Military Equipment Research, Military Informatics, Public Administration, Technological Economics and Management, and Higher Education), two professional degree programs (Project Management and Master of Public Administration [MPA]), and three undergraduate programs (System Engineering, Command Automation Engineering, and Management Engineering).
During the 10th Five-Year Plan, the disciplines of Management Science and Engineering and System Engineering have developed into the National Key Disciplines and Hunan Province Key Discipline. Military Operation Research was also developed into a Hunan Province Key Discipline. The disciplines of Command Automation Engineering and Military Management have become the principal programs of 2110 Project. Management Science and Engineering, the first-category National Key Discipline, ranked fourth in 2006 in the overall evaluation of first-category disciplines operated by the Center of National Degree and Graduate Education Development. Since 2001, the college has won six awards of national and Hunan Province teaching achievements, the 13th National Book Award for one textbook, seven books listed in Textbooks for the 21st Century, and eight textbooks selected for national planning textbooks of higher education in the 10th Five-Year Plan and the 11th Five-Year Plan. The students of the college have won a large number of prizes in the international, national, provincial and municipal disciplinary contests. Over 80 students have won awards in the International Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC), the Challenge Cup National College Students Extra-Curricular Scientific Works Contest, and the National Collegiate Mathematical Contest in Modeling. In the 2008 International MCM, the delegation from the college won the Special Award and the INFORMS Award, the only INFORMS Award won by delegations from China. In the ACM-ICPC, the students were rewarded with qualification for the world finals and entered the world list for two consecutive years (2007 and 2008). The quality of graduates’ theses has greatly improved, with five Hunan Province Excellent Doctoral Dissertations and 19 Hunan Province excellent master theses.
The college, responsible for many research projects for the National Natural Science Foundation, National 863 Plan and National 973 Plan, has won three awards of National Scientific and Technological Progress and over 200 awards of Provincial/Ministerial Scientific and Technological Progress. The college has also established long-term academic relations with universities and institutions at home and abroad, and sent 50 faculty members to the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, Ireland and Australia to pursue degrees, and conduct cooperative research. The college has the National Key Laboratory of C4ISR Technology, the innovation base for the second stage of the 985 Project for defense acquisition management, military higher education, and national defense scientific and technological development strategy research.
