The College of Electronic Science and Engineering, founded in 1961, is mainly responsible for education and scientific research in the fields of electronic information. Its principal research areas include automatic target recognition, radar technology, satellite navigation technology, communication technology, microwave and antenna, remote information processing, and geographic information systems.
The faculty consists of one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 49 professors, 57 Ph.D. supervisors, and nine National 863 Plan experts.
The college covers such first-category disciplines as information and communication engineering, electronic science and technology, and surveying and mapping science and technology. The college offers six Ph.D. programs: Communication and Information Systems, Signal and Information Processing, Space Electronic Information Technology, Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology, Circuits and Systems, and Micro-electronics and Solid Electronics), and one master’s degree program in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. The first-category discipline of information and communication engineering, credited as the National Key Discipline, came in third place in the National Evaluation of First-category Disciplines in 2006. The two disciplines of electromagnetic field and microwave technology and circuits and systems were evaluated as the Hunan Province Key Disciplines.
The college has the National Key Laboratory of Automatic Target Recognition, the Engineering Research Center of Satellite Navigation and Positioning Technology of the Ministry of Education, the Hunan Province Key Laboratory of Ultra Wideband Detection Technology, and the Microwave Engineering Laboratory. Since 2001, the college has won seven national achievement awards including the Special Award for National Scientific and Technological Progress, the second prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress and Invention, the second prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress, published 32 textbooks and monographs, as well as presented over 1,800 papers in major journals and at important conferences both at home and abroad.
