Approved by the National Post-Doctoral Administration Committee, the Post-doctoral Research Station of Information and Communication Engineering station was established in 1995 by the first-category discipline of information and communication engineering at the College of Electronic Science and Engineering. The discipline focuses on information science, offers PhD and master degree programs of the first-category discipline, has the first specially-employed Changjiang Scholar professor positions, and contains three second-category discipline PhD programs (communication and information system, signal and information processing, space electronic information technology, the first two of which are both national key disciplines).
The discipline focuses on the research of the generation, acquisition, detection, processing, recognition, and confrontation of electronic information in the following areas: automatic target recognition and fuzzy engineering, comprehensive electronic warfare system and technology, modern communication technology, multidimensional signal intelligent information processing, data fusion and target recognition, graph and image processing and scientific visualization, wide-band and ultra wide-band electronic information acquisition and real-time processing, modern signal processing, image analysis and information fusion, geographical information system and database technology, star-based navigation and location technology, space information confrontation technology, and remote sensing information processing, etc. The discipline has taken the lead in China and ranked No.4 in the national evaluation of first-category disciplines in 2002. The station boasts a well-structured team of faculty members including one Chinese Academy of Engineering academician, eight national experts, 31 PhD supervisors, 37 professors, and 54 associate professors.
The discipline has the National Key Laboratory of ATR, comprehensive electronic warfare laboratory, communication engineering laboratory, applied electronic technology laboratory, ultra wide-band technology laboratory, information engineering laboratory, etc. with a total area of over 12,000m2 and a total equipment value of over 60 million Yuan. Besides the advanced experiment equipment and test methods such as radar signal simulator, ultra wide-band detection system, infrared automatic signal recognition experiment system, small-size processor automatic design system and so forth, the station also has high-performance workstations, high-quality computers and advanced specialized software. The campus network which connects China education network and the internet is also accessible in the station.
In recent five years, the first-category discipline has undertaken over 300 research projects including National Natural Science Foundation projects, 863 hi-tech projects, and national defense pre-research projects and so on, won over 20 national and provincial/ministerial research achievement awards (five awards of National Science and Technology Progress, 10 provincial/ministerial first prizes, over 20 provincial/ministerial second and third prizes), and published over 1200 papers in academic journals (580 have been indexed by SCI, EI, ISTP) and over 30 monographs and textbooks.
